I was having all kinds of problems. No Joystick, black screen after intro, laggy menus, choppy controls, camera zoom, etc.

I now have the game running great. I tried nGlide but it would crash after every mission and the game didn't look as good (unless I used nGlide tool to increase resolution).

Anyway try this.

Go to your installation folder and complete these steps. I have played 6 missions now and no crashing, joystick is working, game runs smooth. I have tested on two computers with excellent results.

#1 – Open ROGUE.EXE and select D3D and controller (I use Xbox One controller)
#2 – Right Click ROGUE SQUADRON.EXE and go to properties and then to compatibility and set to Win 95
#3 – Run ROGUE SQUADRON.EXE (you will have very slow menus) go to settings and joystick settings and set defaults (all button areas should populate)
#4 – Right Click ROGUE SQUADRON.EXE and go to properties and then to compatibility and turn off compatibility mode
#5 – Create a shortcut to ROGUE SQUADRON.EXE and go to properties and then click advanced and check run as administrator
#6 – Use the shortcut to launch the game

Hope this helps someone.

You must have used the latest nGlide. You need 1.02 instead.

For the rest, sure, whatever works. Never had a controller to test it with, and people have been all over the place with how they got theirs to detect. As long as you disable all compatibility settings once you're done tweaking, you should be fine. No idea why you'd need Admin privileges at the end, though.

Yeah.... 1.03 crashed the game but 1.02 also has the camera zoom issue. Is there a fix for that using nGlide?

Not really; it's a game bug, and it manifests somewhat randomly, in different circumstances and setups. It's easy enough to reset with F1 or camera cycle. To me, the benefits of nGlide far outweigh the occasional zoom-out.
