Does anyone know if there is a way to use any sort of controller/joypad for this game? Downloaded it to try and relive my old XBOX gamer days and using the controller is the final piece of that puzzle.

Yes, you can, but you have to go here, download the archive, extract it and follow the procedure reported in the readme file.
