I followed the forum posts and added the -w after the target ("C:\Program Files (x86)\GalaxyClient\Games\Star Wars - Rebellion\REBEXE.EXE" -w) but it still rusn maxmized and my entire pc resolution is changed.

Odd mine changes the entire screen resolution and runs full screen (minus the widescreen portions of the monitor). Is that normal?

sounds like 640X480, pause the game then press [tab]+[alt]... if you get the desktop select options then the game IS running in Windows mod

p.s, this is an old 8bit game and predates the _ [] X of later Windows tabs mate

When I alt tab it just brings me to GOG Galaxy. I dont get any options. I can only see the game on my screen when it's selected, nothing else.
have you got any other window screen open or is Galaxy the only other thing?

press [windows key] + [e] to open a explorer broswer then go back into your game

now press and hold down [alt] first, then with that still pressed add the [tab] key next... this should open the Windows desktop explorer options in Windows 10

if nothing else we should see three options; the game, galaxy and the explorer browser... the next thing you do depends on what build of Windows 10 you have but pressing [tab] while holding down the [alt] key should cycle the 3 choices

to be clear, Windows mode = the game keeps running while you are in other screens so its normally a good idea to pause it first

can I ask what you want to do with the game in this mode... is it that you want to be able to read a guide perhaps?

Thank you I am able to Alt-Tab to other windows but my resolution makes them unusable. I was hoping to have another window open for the manual or a chat session.

I have attached a full screenshot of what my desktop looks like when the game switches my resolution.

Maybe I am expecting something different than is happening?

yes that is Windows mode... the system is struggling to display the game + broswer and I wouldn't push it mate

I recommend you grab another cheep monitor and plug that in to show your needs... because Windows can run another monitor without stress as long as you don't need dirrectplay enabled on it (which you don't)

the bit on the right is the full monitor but Windows shows it small because the number of dots is small

I've also been struggling to get windowed mode to work. I finally made it with DXWnd and the settings described here: sourceforge.net/p/dxwnd/discussion/general/thread/7e3205912d/#b742

You have to enable Expert mode (Options -> Expert mode) in DXWnd and then make these settings:

Main / Acquire admin caps
Hook / Inject suspended process
Hook / no shims
Libs / Scaled GDI calls

Edit: But left mouse clicks in the context menus do not work, meh.

I found myself with the same problem a while ago while trying to make SW Rebellion work(the original CD version, not GoG or Steam).

Right now I can't remember what did I change, but this DXwnd profile allowed me to play the game fine. Unfortunately the window mode was too small for me to play in a 1920x1080 environment, so I finally stayed with the full-screen mode.

Import it in DXwnd (it's a text file). After that, you will have to change the path to your SW Rebellion install.
A patch is available here which made the window mode work reliably: https://swrebellion.net/files/file/1-rebellion-fix/
