"An Empire's Fury"

Just how the FH are you meant to keep up with Colonel Veers and free him from his rebel captors before they hole themselves up in their base and it's "mission fail"?

The mission is totally impossible.....?

Don't stop to hit anyone or anything else and nail the people in front first. You then need to get one of your units near Veers to "claim" him or he'll just keep walking. What I usually do is blast everyone standing immediately around him and then send Vader up to greet Veers while I use my troops to keep blasting everyone else.

Don't forget you can pause and give commands while paused in order to make sure your men hit the right targets without worrying about losing the Colonel.

Nope, it's rather easy when you start right away. I think Veers is triggered once you free the troops at the beginning of the map or when you pass this area. Make sure you've got all your units near the prison and when the message to free Veers comes, follow the street and intercept the little convoy at the intersection. Don't walk as a group as that's much slower than sending groups of the same unit type. Run ahead with Vader to kill the three trooper guards. Your troopers will be behind you and can take care of the mounties.

Aha - which is what I realised (and did) after about 6 tries! :) And indeedy do, it was piss easy after that!

Doesn't work for me. Even if I reach the convoy in time, Veers just walks past my troops or Vader and I fail the mission.

You have to kill all guards in the convoy, Troopers and Mounted Troopers and get one of your own men (take Vader to be on the safe side) close to Veers afterwards to "claim" him. He'll then become one of your units.
Did anyone successfully saved Veers? I tried many times (even killing everyone well before crossroads) but Veers cannot be claimed.

Yes, I can confirm that it usually works.
Once I get the message to free Veers, I kill all convoy troops and afterwards claim Veers with Vader before he reaches the gate.

Trying not to be a dick here but there are several very tough missions in this game and this ain't one of them. :P

In fact I don't think I ever used Veers after I rescued him; that Walker is too damn slow.

I think you misunderstood my post. I agree with you completely regarding difficulty. I have a problem that I can't get the trigger regarding saving Veers to work under any circumstances. I even managed to get Vader and troopers in the exact position where Veers appears, his escort was wiped out immediately, but still he just blindly continues to walk and is listed as ally.

Yeah I misunderstood. Sorry about that. :P That almost sounds like a bug to me but I'm an idiot with regard to stuff like that.

No problem, thanks to your video I realised what was wrong - when you go to release troopers which are detained you must follow the path to the right of starting position. I was going the shortest way possible (upwards from starting position) and it wasn't working. Thanks again!
Alright, after doing this mission more times than I would like to I bring you this:

In order to avoid having to watch Veers mindlessly going to the rebel base or standing in the middle of the path, you have to... leave Vader alone at the very beginning of the mission. Yeah. Do not click on him etc., just send your stormtroopers after him when he says that you should follow him to free his troops. Simply follow his path. Vader will march to the rebel prison on his own, then you have to free the prisoners and rush with everything you've got to the point where you meet Veers. Get rid of the escort and then Vader will have a chat with Veers.

Perhaps it's a bug of some sort that somehow links the two triggerable events in the mission. If you interrupt the first one (Vader), the other won't work properly (Veers). But I don't really know. Honestly, I've done a lot to embrace the stupidity of this mission and the solution above seems to be the only thing that helps. :D
