One of the biggest issues with GOG's release of Star Wars Galactic Battlegrounds Saga is the fact that on many machines, regardless of OS, the background music that is played during the game, proper, plays back really choppy and can also create scroll lag. From what I have observed between the GOG copy and the original CD version, the GOG version uses an external OGG player to play the BGM track that is normally left on the CD in the original version. This OGG player appears to be the problem. On most Windows XP machines, the bug will appear. I have observed that old Acer netbooks seem to be immune to the problem. Various gamers have responded that the bug exists on their system and the only conclusion I can come to is that the OGG player used by this version of the game is incompatible with the architectures of some sound cards.

The only way to get around this issue is to go to the options menu and turn the music all the way down so that it does not play at all.

With the music shut off, the cranky OGG player does not run, creating the problem. I cannot guarantee that this will work for all systems, but I have observed that it is a fix for people running this game on Windows XP.
