Hello all I just got the game yes I bought the GOG version. I was having issues left & right trying to get this game to run smoothly.

So with the help of the internet I was able to get the game to run flawlessly on my end.

Fix 1. Rename sweaw.exe to swfoc.exe
https://www.gog.com/forum/star_wars_empire_at_war_gold/final_solution_to_the_ram_problem_of_the_gog_version_of_the_game

Fix 2. Put the game in compatibility mode windows 98/ME
https://www.gog.com/forum/star_wars_empire_at_war_gold/possible_fix_game_stuttering_win_81_x64/page1

Fix 3. Disable scaling on High DPI
1) Go to Star Wars - Empire at War folder and enter the Gamedata folder of the game

2) In the Gamefolder left click the Sweaw.exe or swfoc.exe (if you did fix #1) and choose Properties

3) Choose Compatibilty tab and then "Change Settings for all Users"

4) Remove the marked option that says 'Disable scaling on High DPI settings" (that should enable the Display scaling)

5) Click Apply and then run the game by clicking the Sweaw.exe (and not from the shortcut)

Fix 4. Change the HZ in the video Settings

In the game Video settings set your screen resolution to one of the 40HZ screen sizes instead of the 60HZ ones.

Fix 5. Set Game priority to High in Task Manager

Start the game then open the task manager find the star wars empire at war process in the task manager & set it's priority to high.

Fix 6. Set the game to only run off of 2 CPU cores only

Same thing as Fix 5 start the game & open the task manager find the empire at war process in the task manager & if you have a multi core CPU. Go to affinity in the task manager & set the game to only run off of 2 CPU's only (only do this if you have over 2 CPU cores)

Fix 7. Enable V sync

Enable V sync in the video settings especially if you are experiencing graphical glitches, especially when it comes to lightning/rain on some of the maps.

I did all 7 of these fixes I mentioned & the game is running flawlessly on my end. So if anyone sees this try all 7 of these steps & let me know if they worked for you like they worked for me.

In the video settings it only gives me one option for resolution?

Oh my gosh it worked! I tried everything, and this was the only thing that got it to run.
On my old PC Windows 98/ME worked, along with administrator and the use of the Ntcore app.

Now on my laptop had to use VISTA compatibility or lose the game mouse pointer with 98/ME setiting. Weird? Also renaming sweaw to sfoc helped. Don't know if this is related to newer hardware, or the fact my old system was AMD and the new one is intel? Go figure, and so far so good
I keep getting an error on my Mac after running this through Portingkit that it can't find a compatible 3d device. Anyone have any ideas on how to resolve this?

Did you do the Disney patch download mentioned in one of the posts you referenced? Just curious if it was neccessary.
