the message i got while trying to download was "whoops: there was an error while writing to your download folder!" (E1008), and right after that i get a message stating that it is offline and cant connect to the gog servers. what am i not doing?

Hi,
It sounds like you're having some problems with the downloader.
Have you tried downloading the files with your browser ?
As for your problems with the downloader, check out article (scroll down to 6) , or [url=http://www.gog.com/en/support/support_view/GOG_com_Downloader_issues]this one for more specific downloader issues.

I use firefox and never experienced any problems so far.
I didn't use the downloader tool so far so you might want to try it with and without the downlaoder.
