Anyone know how to get it working? By default I can't select the Glide render path, only DirectX 5.

I'd like to know how too! On nGlide website, it says Windows 95 mode should be used, but I'm stuck with DX5 either way.

I'll do some testing, normally you can delete the glide2x file in the game folder but that didn't seem to work either.
I tried the following - nGlide installed, both normally and with its files unzipped within the game folder (glide2x.dll overwritten with nGlide file then):

- deleting D3D .dll file as mentioned in readme: can't find any driver

- with our without Win95 compatibility setting: no 3DFX driver shown

- copy-pasted the render3dfx.dll, renderD3D6.dll and rendergl3.dll from either european or US patch into game folder: the game shows 3dfx drivers!!

So render3dfx.dll at least was missing to get the choice. However, it seems these files were deleted because there is no CPU fix for other drivers than D3D5. So, whatever other driver you choose, the game crashes at start. According to some info I read on nGlide forums, it's due to CPU speed higher than 2Ghz. GOG seems to have fixed it for D3D5. If there is a way to fix this for one or both 3DFX drivers, we might get it running... Maybe!

So: a 'CPU fixed' 3DFX driver should do. I have currently no clue how to do this though!

Interesting. Did you try limiting the affinity to CPU core 1? You can force it before the game loads with this utility here http://www2.robpol86.com/guides/ImageCFG/
I've just tried this, to no avail. Actually I remember having checked the affinity before, and it was already set to 1 core (UC 0). I also tried the Application Compatibility Toolkit fixes (EmulateSlowCPU, SingleProcAffinity), still crashing.

I think it's more a matter of hardware detection here.

Well, I applaud all your efforts thus far. I guess it may be worth contacting GOG support and getting in touch with the programmer to see how they did it.
It is such a pity no one from Gog has tried to help .
These old games are crying out to be played and thanks to nGlide the basic tools are now out there.
All it needs is to find out which older games would be best suited for nglide support and work with nglide after all they say on the nGliude website Speedbusters is fully compatible ...but what they do not say is if it for the original CD only and as they say thay have teamed up with Gog ...why not work on all the games like this one may be gog just removed the driver that is required and it could be put back so that it works with nGlide .
I am certain that if Gog could confirm nGlide support on its sales pages for games it would sell many more.
I've just sent an email to support suggesting Glide rendering as an option (with the CPU fix applied to it). Now let's wait and see if it can be provided! Hope so! (I've just tried the game again and most of the moving scenery parts are just off until the last moment now - hello T-Rex!)

Maybe indicating Glide support through wrapper is a good idea indeed, now that this method is becoming common.

Thanks for the support for this game
I have just been trying to test the nGlide installation method with the original cd of Speedbusters but unfortunately although I have Win 7 and Win 8.1 on the same PC I cannot get win 95 compatibility to work as nglide said it would, as an error message saying the game will not run on NT keeps popping up catch 22.
I have copied the folder onto my spare drive and will try later to swap configs and DLL files just in case it will work
It is worth a shot.

Gog and nGlide have the perfect solution ...I know as it works perfect on a few of my other favourite old games ..
I have all the Descent Series working perfectly at 1920 x 1080 res and all you have to do is ignore the in game settings leaving them on 3DFX 640 x 480 ....nGlide config does the rest ...
so what is missing with Speedbusters ...I reckon it would be a very simple fix ...but beyond me but it will not stop me trying.
Here is the answer from support (I'm late posting it sorry):

"Unfortunately currently it is not possible to use 3Dfx with our version of the game, I've asked our Programmers and they don't see any way to fix the game now, they might take a second look when they have less tasks to complete in the future."

So we'll see!

Cheers for letting us know, that is such a shame , I managed to get a driver that was detected as a 3DFX but then crashed when I tried to play it , I then tried to install from the original CD but it just wont on Windows 7 or 8 / 8.1
Maybe Gog would do better to hand their version of this game to nGlide and let them see if their partners can help them out after all a little donation for any future sales from games fixed would be benefitial for both parties and us the end users.

Gog and nGlide were all about keeping older games alive so why not work together guys .

However I have a feeling Gogs Programmers will be too busy working on future Galaxy projects to bother with our older games.... time will tell but I keep seeing more and more indie games being added as they are simple and a quick buck.
I hope I am proved wrong and they do have programmers working on improving the classic games that were played on 3DFX cards in their time ,but how do we know if they are ....they never say anything about what they are doing.
I occaisionaly get a message saying game updated .,....but in what way ? Let us know what the update does .

nd if a game now works with nGlide ....announce it on the games sale page .... how simple is that.
And now back to waiting game
Any news here regarding Glide support?

For glide support I don't know, but in the meantime, you can try upscaled DirectX graphics.
