I tried installing the SQ4 CD-Rom Patch so I could get the better graphics AND the speech & text simultaneously. But when I did, I lost the speech (despite getting the better graphics). I went to the in-game control panel & selected "Both" but no luck. Anyone know how to fix this?

Is the GOG version the same as the one that patch is for?

Have you asked the folks that made it if it's compatible with the GOG version?
The patch definitely updated the GOG graphics, but I see what you mean. I'll have to check it out with the site.
Any progress on this issue? Would like to use it.
I used the GOG version & didn't use the patch. Already finished the game & moved on to another one. Never did e-mail the patch site about it.
I thought I'd give the patch a shot as I would like to both see and hear the dialogue. Unfortunately, when I tried to run any of the executables in the download, Windows (7-64) complained very loudly that the file was "not compatible with this version of Windows." Same results when run as administrator. Oh well.

That's because you're not running the game through GOG's configuration. Instead of running the files in the patch, you simply copy and paste the content and run the game through GOG's shortcut.

Ahh...I should have thought of that. Thanks for the tip, I'll try it out.

Does that mean you were successfully able to use the patch with the GOG version?

Unfortunately, no. I'm using ScummVM to run it and I get an error message.

The "patch" that is linked here is basically the complete floppy version of Space Quest 4.
ScummVM has this one blacklisted, because it's literally a pirated copy and not an actual patch.

There is an actual patch creator program, made by the same person as this original "patch" and that one requires you to own both the floppy version as well as the CD version and creates a new version of those 2 releases.
You should be able to find this on the DOS-Box forums.

That's how it should have been done in the first place and when you do it that way, the game works in ScummVM.
