Delighted to see this re-released. Confession time, I only played SoF on DC (somehow on that controller, don't ask how) back in the day and loved it. Maybe I've overlooked something but i can't see any manual save functionality here or even a quick save option for that matter.

The game only saves at pre-determined checkpoints.

Press ESC to get back to the menu and then select 'game', here you can freely save and load your game. How often depends on the difficulty you've chosen.

I use the SoFPlus mod, but you should be able to save by hitting F6.

However, the number of saves you can do is dependent on the difficulty, but you can set it to unlimited in Custom Difficulty, which is very appreciated.

Yeah, I worked my work through the function keys. Should've figured it was bound to that really. Thanks all.

Maybe in ythe console versions,l but in the PC version you have can save at will, thought your choice of lovel of difficulty might limits the number of saves you have.
