If you use a DualShock 4, you may have discovered, as I did, that the SNK 40th Anniversary Collection appears to support it but kinda doesn't. Buttons don't work properly in some games, and in the games where they do, the mapping is all wrong. The game seems to think it's an Xbox controller, showing Xbox button icons and such, and even if you're running DS4Windows in the background it still doesn't work properly.

But here's how to fix it.

Don't plug the controller into your PC before you start the game! Instead, start the game first, wait until you are in the main menu, THEN plug in the controller. Once you do that, push any button, and the game should detect the controller correctly. It shows the PlayStation button icons, and all the buttons are mapped correctly! There's no need to have DS4Windows running at all, it just works.

So if you want to use your DS4 with this collection, but it isn't working correctly for you, this is how to use it. I'm not sure why the game doesn't detect it correctly on startup, but does if you plug the controller in after starting it, but hopefully this helps some people out.

Icon detection for PS3 games is rare, but seeing more titles do it.

Most games will give you XBOX icons, at least on Windows.

If you have trouble with mappings, or as an alternative to DS4Windows, Steam will allow you to remap any DS4. Add GOG as a local executable to steam, and it will launch with all games having DS4/XInput support.
