I played the heck out of Space Rangers, thoroughly enjoying the game. This games sounds a lot like SR.

How does this stack up to SR? Better? How is it different?

It's completely different from SR.

It's like combination of "Sid Meier's Pirates!" and good old "Elite".

Frankly, I think the easiest way to describe it to say it's like WC: Privateer but turn-based. There are quite a lot of similarities between the two.
