Hey everyone! As soon as I saw SiN on sale, I knew I had to get on it. Unfortunately, I was plagued by a persistent grey screen that wouldn't even allow me to switch to my task manager, let alone respond to Alt-F4 attempts.
After a few tries, I managed to make the game work at 1920x1080 and played through the entire bank level with little to no problem. I thought I'd share what worked for me, in case anyone else is in the same boat. :)
Note: I started by trying the Sin Patcher (ver 1.1), but it did little to help, as I couldn't even reach the menu. Because I also changed the name of the executable - something I read on these forums - I don't think it made much difference either way.
1) First thing I did was download the newest version of nGlide (at the time of this writing 2.0). http://www.zeus-software.com/downloads/nglide
2) Then, I opened the nGlide Configuration executable in the Sin Gold folder and changed my resolution to the desired 1920x1080.
3) Changed the sin.exe executable name to quake2.exe
4) Right-clicked on it, went to properties, then the Compatibility tab and made the following changes:
- Run this program in compatibility mode for: Windows XP (Service Pack3)
- Checked "Disable fullscreen optimizations"
- Checked "Run this program as an administrator"
- Press the "Change High DPI settings" and, at the bottom, check "Override high DPI scaling behavior. Scaling performed by:" and picked Application.
5) Ran the game directly from the quake2.exe executable.
And it worked! There will be some heavy flickering as it goes through the videos, but otherwise, the game should be playable now!
I'm not super savvy on computers, though, so if there's an easier way of doing all this or if this doesn't work in someone's specific case, I'm so sorry. :\ Either way, I hope this helps someone, as it has helped me.
Keep safe!
