I have a problem where I get the crash when I follow the yellow imp in the library to his chambers, and try to leave or open his chest.
I am aware there are similar posts here, but none of the workarounds in those posts have been of much help.

I have tried the codec, DEP fix, all the compatibility modes, turning on Vsync and reinstalling the game.
But my issue isnt with any cutscenes, so the codec shouldnt be an issue(?).
Does anyone have a clue as to what I can do to fix this?
Starting to get kinda desperate, I really really want to play this game

Same problem! Please give us a fix!

Just searched the board a little more. There are at least 3 more threads with the same topic and a solution for it. Could a Moderator please clean up a little bit?

I searched the entire Silver forum for the same thing, but could not find a fix for it?

I did contact the gog support and they got the fix for it, atleast it worked for me:

1) Please make sure that you use "Run as Administrator" to install and to start the game (right-click on the shortcut or setup file and select "Run as Administrator").

2) Please reinstall the game and add it to your anti-virus/firewall software's exception/trusted list.

3) Install the June 2010 DirectX runtime package, then use the DirectX web installer.

You can find the archive file containing the 2010 package installation files here:
www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8109

You will have to extract the files into some folder, then open that folder and launch the DXSETUP.exe file in order to proceed with the installation.

Afterwards, download the latest DirectX web installer and use it as well:
www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=35

4) Please try setting a more standard refresh rate (60 Hz), to do this right-click an empty space on your desktop, select Screen resolution > Advanced settings, on the Monitor tab change the Screen refresh rate to 60 Hertz.
