Hi!

I'm interested in having a go at making a minor mod but I can't find MapEdit.exe, which AFAIK is the editor. I've attached a image of the GOG install SS directory (additional folders are installed mods), and as can be seen Editor_EULA.rtf is there... so the editor must be around somewhere!

Am I missing something obvious?

I'm still looking for confirmation that the editor is included in this version, and where exactly it is.

AFAIK, when installing the original disc version (or perhaps only when installing patch 1.2) one had to select an option to install the editor. The GOG install did not present this option...

I'm pretty sure there's no editor in GoG version, which is a shame, because I'd really to fiddle with it.

EDIT: Maybe they didn't include it because the MSDE (SQL server) that followed with the game and was required to run the Editor doesn't work on Win7 and you have to use 2005 MSSQL Express instead, but they didn't realize that.

That seems a likely possibility. From what I understand from a bit of advice at strategycore.co.uk, and as you say, the editor does function on win7 using 2005 MSSQL Express. Unfortunately, I can't say more than that as having a go at tweaking things would be an exploratory mission for me... and all the comprehensive modding info I have found is out of date.

Couldn't hurt to include the editor as an optional download, along with a disclaimer.
The editor REALLY needs to be included. It's a part of the game, and a feature of it. To leave it out (no matter what hoops that comes with) is to detract from the games full experience. Please fix this GOG!

Edit- Came back to find if there was any word on getting the editor.

I'm enjoying the game, but there are some things I would really like to tweak, namely a stats. To do it, we need to have the editor.

Can we get any word from a GOG team member, on when to expect getting it? Can somebody host the editors exe perhaps?

I agree. This game would be perfect if it had an editor
Just to add my vote for the editor to be included as well.
Hopefully they will release the editor, but in the meantime I will look for my boxed copy..
I would also like the editor even if I have to fiddle to get it to work.
No editor? That`s a shame!

Anyone interested in editor might google for it. I recall seeing some sites with links to it.

The editor for SS v. 1.2 should be updated to match the version other wise you may get some stupid errors like pistols firing their whole clip in one shotgun-like attack :)
GOG Please add the editor or at least make note that it isnt included.
Well, maybe they should ask Nivial ro create a full SDK to the game, seeing that its 10 years old and it would mean more mods and more people buying the game so they can mod it. This game deserves more mods and maps.
Steam greenlight version promised out of the box editor.
They have a manual for the editor, just no editor. Lame. Is the db format editable without the editor? SQLite wouldn't open it.
VirtualBox is also an option. I still have the original CD's but I'm on Linux now. Have the editor and MSServer working on VirtualBox with Windows XP SP3.
