battlechili1: Those games also had PC ports.
If it isn't legal issues (which it could very well be), maybe GOG is spreading them out until Halloween (to make get more news coverage perhaps). Maybe SH3 next week and then SH2 after, or SH2-3 at the same time close to Halloween.

Have no doubt GOG themselves want them here ($$$)

CDJ75: Does it really matter that they don't have the source code when this is about re-releasing existing ports with minor fixes added and not about doing completly new ports from the ground up?
You're right, it shouldn't matter for what GOG does.

BigCjnS: +1 to Silent Hill 1, 2, 3 and Downpour....
Silent Hill 4 is a forgettable game ...
Downpour and first game were never on PC, so I wouldn't hope for it.
2 and 3 are likely having issues because of Konami being ass to voice actors.
Maybe SH2 or SH3 will come later as GOG.com/Konami/guys behind the Enhanced Edition of SH2 are working on official re-releasing those games with all the special bells and whistles.... we can dream :P

BobsRevenge: Maybe they want to put more work into them before releasing since they're bigger profile?
This, plus they're trying to milk 4. If they put out all the games at once, 4 would get the least amount of sales but because it's the only SH out right now so it will get all the attention and more customers.

shade: I think original voices rights could be the biggest issue.

I wouldn't mind to see the games re-released with the HD collection voices... But I don't know if it would be possible (on technical or legal point of view).
Incorrect, the original voices have all been legally fixed and set for re-release.

Probably this. Considering how the majority of players prefer SH2 and SH3 over SH4, they may just put in extra effort to fix the PC Ports of those two games.

It would also be weird for Konami to hand out the license for SH4, but not for SH2 and SH3, which were more beloved within the community and would thus create more money.

Not to mention that SH2 and SH3 are older, even if just by one or two years. I can imagine that just the fact that it's later in the series may allow SH4 to run better, or be easier to update.

I recall seeing screenshots of people's graphic's cards struggling with the moving texture on Eileen's skin in the original SH4 PC port. So I can only imagine how much the moving textures of SH3's Otherworld walls would be an issue in the same case. Now granted, these issues were a few years ago (roughly around 2010-12), but even by then the games were already old and probably struggling with some hardware.

Heck, SH2-4 are turning 20 years old in the next few years. Hardware and software have developed massively since then.

If they have the license, it probably takes them more time to update and patch the two older games.

gamersam: Actually, SH 2 and 3 had PC ports (see pic*) along with SH 4. SH1 was Playstation but can be played with an emulator on Windows 10 fine. I have all four on disc and they play great.

*I can't seem to add the pic. It uploads but never shows. Here's an imgur link.

Yes, I realized I misunderstood what you meant. Sorry.

AFAIK, only for SH2, not for SH3.

No need lol. :)
I'm fine with them testing the waters with SH4 first, I bought it immediately and already said I will do the same for the rest.
At least seeing this release gives me some hope for 2&3, I still hope there is a possibility for the first too. No joke, charge me $50-60 and I will buy a SH Trilogy with no discount.
And I'll take the hate, but the HD Collection didn't bother me like it seemed to many others, even that would be something.

Interestingly, all three games from SH2-4 use the same custom inhouse engine, except when you go outside the apartment in SH4, where it uses engine from MGS3. So basically, SH2 and 3 will work with same fixes, but this fourth game needs extended work. Like others said, Konami just tests waters with this and so far it seems to have gathered quite a lot attention on gaming websites too. So it's very likely that we will eventually get SH2 and 3 at some point, if this sells well enough.

Just finished replaying 3 for PC: I own physical copies of SH 2, 3, and 4 for PC. Picked them up at a used electronics store years ago. Only have the discs, sadly. But thankfully not only does the game install and play, there is also a fan project to help restore the quality and reliability of both 3 and 2! And they both look and sound gorgeous on PC. It's nice to still own the physical copies. But having SH 2, 3, AND 4 DRM free would be amazing. Especially since the physical copy of 4 contains the original port, which is very hard to get working properly these days.

Also, and I know this will never happen, but an official port of 1 would be amazing. It's fantastic playing SH 1 emulated: you can actually read the posters and discern images on walls, for instance. But I don't mind giving Konami some more $ for a dedicated copy on PC!

It's a shame Microsoft didn't take more advantage of their 1999 game exchange deal with Konami to bring out a PC version of Silent Hill. They only ever used it for the PC version of Metal Gear Solid, now re-released on GOG thanks to that. Konami on his hand only used it for the PS2 version of Age of Empires II: The Age of Kings as well.

And when you consider classic PS1 titles like MediEvil and the Crash trilogy have been re-released/remastered to mostly positive reviews, especially the closer they stick to the originals, now would be the perfect time for a Silent Hill 1 re-release! Not sure I'd want a "remastered" version of SH1 using modern tech (ala Crash and MediEvil)...but I wouldn't say no, as long as it was strict recreation of the original.
