Hi,

What is this game like? Is it worth the 5,99$?

Soccorro: Hi,

First and perhaps most important, this is an old game. Graphics are pretty dated, controls are clunky. I struggle with the controls each and every time I pick this up because it's definitely not intuitive. You'll need to read instructions carefully to master the controls.

That aside, bluntly speaking, it is a game of mini games. There's the car chase mini game, the wiretapping mini game, the decryption mini game and the breaking/entering/extracting/combat minigame, and all cases have at least one instance where you need to go through each of them. They go from simplistic (car chasing is a matter of following a dot on the screen with your dot, and decrypting can be fun but it's really easy to figure out) to complex (wiretapping get very elaborate on harder difficulties) to detailed (action scenes involve stealth, shooting, avoiding/fooling enemies, setting traps, listening, etc.) Depending on the difficulty setting it can be very challenging. I like that!

The fact is, the game is not for everybody, but I simply love it. It's hard to explain what I like so much about it. Besides the minigames, a lot happens in the background of this game. From very few leads, ingame intel and raw gut feeling you need to stop several types of crimes with lots of people involved, waiting to get arrested.

If you don't mind old games and you like spycraft, it might be the game for you. If you don't like struggling with controls, you might hate it.

I like those old games. And i don't really have a problem with complex controls, since i have managed to finish doom 1 and 2 with keyboard controls. I kind of fell in love with old games and their dated graphics, but i'm an old fart of 21 years, so it is not very surprising i like to think of or play older games.

Kid, you're not an old fart, you weren't even born when they released this game. ;-)

If you like old games, I suppose you should ask yourself wether you like investigation/spycraft games, because if you do, it's probably the best you'll find out there (not that there are many options).

One last thing I forgot to mention. On each case the game creates a different set of events and people from a limited pool of faces and types of crimes which follow a more or less predictable script. It's pure Sid Meier: extremely non-linear and replayable, but it only goes so far (most missions are fairly similar in procedure and gameplay). To me, it's tons of fun before it gets repetitive, but it's something that might put some people away.

Now I'm off to play Covert action. ;-)

Spycraft is on sale now. I never played that one. Might be worth a look.
Don't forget if you're confident you have a correct face and and address, you can stake out the property and watch the people coming and going. If you see the person, you can bug their car and follow, or just follow them regularly.

On higher levels, if the bad guys g a whiff of you investigating them , they can lead you into an ambush when you are
following someone in your car!

Also every action is timed, so if you have to fly to Tel Aviv and then Paris before coming home to D.C. the correct amount of time will be deducted for those flying times, and the terrorists plan will be that much closer to completion possibly!
