Dear forum members.

On my Windows 10 PC I wanted to continue a Civilization 3 game (Civ 3 Commplete version from gog) I had started last year, but the game refused to launch. It had worked before. So I reinstalled it, to no avail.

Both the classic and Conquests launcher (I don't see a PTW launcher) bring up a Windows user account warning window and when I accept that changes be made to my computer, that window closes and nothing else happens.

The three editors do work.

There is a thread about a similar topic here :
www.gog.com/forum/sid_meiers_civilization_series/civ_3_classic_wont_start/?search=Civ%20III%20no%20launch
but last year I did not have to worry about the suggestions mentioned there, so I didn't try them/

Any suggestions ?

Shunt your install outside of Program Files or other protected folders and try again.
What does shunting mean ?
The game is currently installed on my F drive, in the same place as when it still worked.

A bit late however Civ III would crash at startup on Windows 10.

Crashes on startup due to intro movie

Edit the conquests.ini file:

Sid Meier's Civilization III Complete\Conquests\conquests.ini

[Conquests]

PlayIntro=0
Thanks for the suggestion.

Civilization III is unenticing to play on my TV for two reasons :
- The image and sound vanish when starting the game, I suspect due to the opening movie
- The game has no sound.

Adding PlayIntro=0 to the conquests.ini file didn't solve the first problem. I have not tested the second.

The problem I mentioned in the OP was probably due to the vertical screen resolution being lower than 768 pixels.

When mine was starting, I was only getting a quarter of the display. No scrolling, no scaling, nothing. Disabling the intro video stated above got it working. Thanks for the hint.
