I bought Shogo from the sale, and installed it to two computers using Win 7, where it installed just fine, and I played a few levels of it.
I really enjoyed the game, but now that I installed it on my main computer, which uses Vista, the setup program won't start.
I click on it, the process shows up on my task manager but nothing else happens.
I have UAC turned off.

Yea, I never could get shogo working when I had vista which was probably one of the reasons that I stopped playing it. I dont know of any fixes other than upgrading to win7 which places it flawlessly
I can not believe it.
I updated to windows seven (of course not just for the game) but still the damn setup won't open
Or well it opened ONCE
I set everything but the low - middle - high settings because I thought it would work
But it won't open again
I am getting so frustrated with this game right now
Anybody know of a way to get the game working manually, e.g. tampering with the files themselves so that the client uses the high settings?
Has anyone here attempted to adjust the the settings in the autoexec/ defaults files? There's a number of setting listed between the two them., You might try making them read only after you've finished just to be safe.

Also the best compatibility mode setting is now considered to be Win98/Me instead of 95 on the client/server/MFC files, along with disabling visual themes/ turn off advanced text services.

EDIT:

I've just gotten a message that said if I paste my default/ autoexe config it will make the post too long. Sorry.

Let me get this straight, the game installs now, but won't run?

If that is the case, did you install it to "program files". I've read that certain old games won't run properly if installed there.

This is not the first time I'm trying to get old games to run on the newer systems: I haven't installed any game to the program files directory for years.
I've tried every trick I know to get the damn LAUNCHER to work at least once so I could set the level of details so the client.exe would run.
There's no need to run the setup file when using the CD version (not shure how the GOG version works) You can simply copy all contents of the CD to a folder and launch the program.
Her you can find how to install shogo.

I'm running Shogo directly from usb stick without any problems (no install needed)

Shogo works best on win 95/98 and XP. and it should work on Win 7 I don't know anything about vista. Check the forum of the Shogo tribute page here: Shogo faq

I tried to create a Shogo faq with all problems and solutions I found on the net.
Hope this can help you out.
