Hello, windows 7 here, it seems that the game continually flickers black and flashes the game border. Very frustrating, to the point where the game is basically unplayable. Any help?

Scroll down to the post below called "widescreen patch." download and follow the instructions. Then:
Choose advanced , turn off lightmapping, pixel doubling, joystick and dx6 commands.
That should get you up and running in 7.
