Was trying to set this up for my daughter on our XP system, but after successfully installing will not launch. Gives a failure error. I'll have to check the event logs to try and get details, but anyone working successfully on XP SP3?

Hey BlueKronos,
a little late answer, but I thought I check this for you.
Shelter runs flawlessly under Win XP SP3 here.
This applies to the unpatched Windows installer English (2.0.0) and the Universal update (2.0.3) installed in a custom folder (C.\Games\Shelter). No further tweaks or configuration done.

Maybe your PC is lacking a component or runtime.

Thanks for the confirmation DeMignon, I had hoped that was the case, but haven't figured out what the XP system here is missing yet.

Hmm, Shelter uses the Unity engine, which hasn't got many requirements.

Make sure DirectX9 is installed:

Maybe updating the graphics drivers helps.
Have you tried running the game as administrator, maybe it's a file access or registry access issue.
