(This post is specifically about the DOS version, which is the version you get when you purchase the game on GOG.)
One thing that I've found to not be obvious is how to start the game with either the Persuasion skill (for a Warrior) or the Priiesthood skill (for a Mage).
* When choosing your starting skills, press SPACE to go to the next page. You'll notice that you need to press "10" to choose this particular skill, except that there's no "10" key on the keyboard.
* Turns out that, on this page, you need to press "1", then "0", in order to select this skill to start with.
Persuasion, in this game, seems to be a 10% discount on costs other than healing. Note that this discount *does* apply to inn stays.
(One warning: The Persuasion skill works fine in this game, but if you play the sequel, Demon's Winter, be aware that the skill has the opposite effect in the DOS version of said game. So, do not take Persuasion if you're playing the DOS version of Demon's Winter. (There's no character transfer, so you don't need to worry about that case.))
