After beating Dead Man's switch I jumped right into Shadowrun Unlimited. I love it, but have a couple of questions that other users may be able to answer. Thanks for any help.

1. How do I cancel safe house contracts? I don't need a safe house right now, but don't see any option to cancel the current upkeep I am paying after every run.

2. Has anyone made any charts or descriptions of how much different things in the game affect street cred, heat, or notoriety? I've done quite a few runs for Gunderson and I'm not sure if it has any affect on any of those. I can run for Frosty, but I haven't yet.

I have a question that is unanswered. Can you play through Shadowrun Returns with a single character?
Well, for Unlimited, no you can not cancel your house. This reflects the Lifestyles from the P&P where you have to have some place to live. Best you can do is go back to the coffin hotel and make that your home. Cheapest alternative.

As for playing solo, yes you sure can. Your chance of surviving is rather low, but you can try. The UGC Nightmare Harvest lets you run it completely solo.

I just finished the campaign and if I understand you question correctly, the answer is: no. You will automatically be assigned at least one team member in some of the missions.

EDIT
Oh, I just found out that using the forum's search functionality hides all the posts that do not contain the words you searched for ... And I additionally misinterpreted this thread's title to be a general question thread.
My answer only refers to the Dead Man's Switch campaign. Sorry for any misunderstandings

Thankfully they have the decency to at least not force you to pay them or at least give you a steep discount if they are mandated tag-alongs.
Necrothreading FTW! Better than making a new thread anyway.

So in Shadowrun Returns I am playing a Shaman turned decker (Yes, I am going to tell you about my character). She has a Renraku deck (the 2nd tier one), a five Decking, and she's doing matrix runs just fine for a Shaman with a Trodes Mesh for a datajack.

However, she does not have the Mark Target ability (Mark Target II is unlocked at Decking 4). In fact, the 'tab' for lack of a better word dosen't even show up for her. This is a bug.

Now my question is, is this a Returns Bug, or an Unlimited Bug? I have never tried switching a character to another archtype in play, the finite karma of both DMS and Dragonfall really encourage one archetype while Unlimited karma is... unlimited.

Staredown: snip.
I'd put money on it being a bug with Unlimited, i've ran into other issues with decking in Unlimited such as not even being able to use decks when I added a data jack later in the game.

Hey! I'm going to resurrect this thread again!

I've had exactly the same problem with the datajack if I don't start the char with one. I tested it by starting with chars with and without datajacks. At first I suspected it might be a problem with the elf type but it didn't work with humans, either. The only effect of getting a datajack at any point after character creation was to reduce their essence. Well, unless I got the Trodes jack, which doesn't reduce essence. But no datajack of any kind worked.

Also, most depressingly, the game crashed last time I was playing it and I lost every save for that character back to almost the start of that character. I lost over 100 karma and I was just about to buy a ¥35,000 deck. I had like ¥40,000 saved.

So, I'm running the Linux game. Is anyone still playing this? "Hello? Is anyone out there?"

As others have said, you buy a cheaper safe house in order to cancel the upkeep for the more expensive one.

Street cred is increased by completing runs and unlocks access to higher level fixers and merchants to get better runs and gear.

Heat and notoriety are increased by completing runs. Heat can also be increased by setting off alarms during runs. Heat causes Lone Star to spawn with greater frequency. Notoriety will cause Lone Star to attack on sight once acertain threshhold is reached. Heat can be reduced by resting in a safe house for an extended period of time.

In order to work around bugs in Shadowrun Unlimited I recall needing to use custom characters and optionally some console cheats. At character creation make sure to invest enough points to unlock item slots for each of the roles that use them - Decking, and Rigging. You only need enough to use the starter deck and starter drone. This should give you a datajack as well as a deck and drone in storage.

It kind of sucks for magic using characters to lose some essence but you can get a litttle extra cyberware later on to help you in other ways. Just keep total cyberware at exactly 2 points of essence loss or less so you do not drop below 4 essence and you can still be a decent magic user in addition to other roles. You can use the console to add enough karma after character creation so that you can play the role you actually want and make up for the points invested in starting as a jack of all trades. It is possible to start with all the roles including magic ones at character creation if you ignore all other skills. This makes for a challenging start but you can eventually earn enough kama later on to be succesful without cheats later on if you hang in there or just add the karma if you don't have the patience to grind it out.

If you want to make up for a lost save you can also add some money with console to give you a head start if you like. Eventually decking becomes the fastest way to earn cash but you will need to get skills and gear up. There are a lot more areas to invest in for decking in Shadowrun Unlimited due to the enhanced decking features but the game play is better for it.

Thanks for your reply, SoheiYamabushi.

The part that really annoys me is that it has the Trodes mesh that shouldn't cost any essence but it just does nothing. So I started looking at the editor to try to see if I could figure out what was wrong with it. Oh, boy. I'm sure you won't be surprised to hear that that module is amazingly complicated. And the editor is anything but intuitive. Especially when you're looking at something as complex as Shadowrun Unlimited.

I was just trying to figure out how the HasDatajack (or whatever variable it uses internally) True/False part works in hopes of maybe cheating it with the console. I still have no idea but I've learned a little about the editor at least.

Anyway, thanks for the reply. It's nice to know there is at least one other person in the world reading this forum. :-)
