Vitek: So, I am about to start Shadowrun Returns for the first time and I would like to make sure if there is any reason to play it in original engine or whether I should use the Dragonfall right away?
Does it really changes some mechanics like someone suggested?
Does it change difficulty?
Will I miss some content or something in particular?

Thanks in advance for answers.
Hi,
I'm not very informed on this topic, and maybe it's late to answer you, but I only know that there's a slight difference in the HUD interface. Personally i won't go for this manipulation.
AFAIK, the only significant difference has to do with some improved cover rules in Dragonfall. I would recommend upping the difficulty to Hard, since this can make DMS slightly easier (and it's already pretty easy).

I've always played Dead Man's Switch through Dragonfall, and it works fine. You don't miss any content.
Thank you both for replies.

I already finished the game few months ago. :-)
I played on normal and opted for playing it through Dragonfall and it was indeed really easy (I haven't lost a single fight).
Although I liked the game quite a lot, I didn't like it that much to replay it on hard anytime soon so trying it on hard again is out of the table for now. :-)
Worked damn good. Gracias.

Staredown: So I went to Content in the Dragonfall Standalone, and in the content both Dead Man's Switch and Seattle were listed as content. However DMS was not playable (in that there was no play button when you selected it, as if you chose Seattle or Shadowrun Core).

So I got to thinking. I have the base Shadowrun Returns as well as the Dragonfall Standalone, is it possible to copy some files over and run Dead Man's Switch with the (IMO improved) GUI of the Dragonfall Standalone?

The answer is: "Yup.".

First make sure you have the most recent patches for both Shadowrun Returns and Dragonfall Director's cut. Next, assuming you installed both games in the default directories, you need to copy C:\GOG Games\Shadowrun Returns\Shadowrun_Data\StreamingAssets\ContentPacks\dead_man_switch\project.cpack.bytes

over

C:\GOG Games\Shadowrun Dragonfall\Dragonfall_Data\StreamingAssets\ContentPacks\dead_man_switch\project.cpack.bytes

That is what makes the play button appear, but the Dead Man's Switch campaign is not quite complete yet. You also need to transfer over the convos and scenes folders (really any folders missing from the Dragonfall version of DMS) from C:\GOG Games\Shadowrun Returns\Shadowrun_Data\StreamingAssets\ContentPacks\dead_man_switch\data

to

C:\GOG Games\Shadowrun Dragonfall\Dragonfall_Data\StreamingAssets\ContentPacks\dead_man_switch\data

Then DMS should be playable in Dragonfall. The Dragonfall engine improvements really enhance the game and this will save gigs of hard drive space from so much redundant data. Chummer.
It works great on Windows 10.

I copied the (fully merged) dead_man_switch folder, zipped it, and backup copied it for future installs.

It also works great on Linux Mint 17.3 64 bit from the Content Menu.

I copied dead_man_switch to the Linux version of Dragonfall (Home\Shadowrun Dragonfall Directors Cut\game\Dragonfall_data\StreamingAssets\ContentPacks\dead_man_switch). Runs just like the Windows version.

Sandwichcreator: I hope there's a future patch to make DMS and Dragonfall compatible with the new engine.
Would love to play the previous campaigns with all the new features that Hong Kong has.
Some modders have migrated the first game into the third (HK) engine: Dead Man Switch—Vox Populi.

Thanks for the heads up. It's a shame modding didn't really take off for the Shadowrun community.

Quality over quantity. :)
Hi everyone!

I've just purchased SR:R and - being an owner of both SR:DF and SR:HK - I've decided to try out this method
I can confirm that the "SR:R content + SR:DF engine" trick still works, following the instructions already posted here

Just for fun, I've also tried to copy both SR:R and SR:DF content to the SR:HK installation.
Both campaigns are available from the main menu, alongside the HK:EE content.
I've tried to start a new game for each campaign and all seems to work.

Only differences I've noticed so far are:
- character creation offers the new karma system
- right at the start at the campaign, you'll be notified about some item additions to your inventory

I do not plan to play the whole DMS campaign for now, so I will not be able to report extensively on other findinds.
If anyone knows about some issues one might encounter later on, please write here about them.

Bye!
actually, it seems that someone has already played the whole campaign

some minor issues are described here, including their workarounds
