I've seen a fair bit of gameplay and there's a lot I like about it.

I'll however have to ask if the sound files are accessible in the game directory or if they're locked inside a big file you can't uncompress.

The reason is the gun noise, it's constant and loud and really drowns out everything else. So if I can find the file and turn it down, recompress it and enjoy not having my hears blow out that'd be ideal.

Can't check this for you right now because I don't have the game installed, but according to what I've read online in a quick search, the audio, music and speech files should be freely accessible.

That said, I suggest you to take a look at the 20th Anniversary Mod, which, in addition to various improvements, enhances the game's audio.
