Hi guys,

We have updated the installer for Sanitarium. The game itself with the new installer should work on a wider variety of systems. Please take it for a spin and see if it works for you, we have tested it on all the major Windows flavors and it has proven to work but with all of the configurations available, you never know if there's something that won't halt the game.

We have, for now, added Windows 7 and 8 as supported operating systems on the game card.

Let us know how this new installer works for you. Thanks :)

Choosername: Nice :) been waiting for this. Thanks!
Please save thanks until you all had a chance to take the game for a spin. Also, credit goes to our techs and QA for this, I am just the messenger but I'll pass on your thanks to the right people :)

Crosmando: Urrrgh, just tried this new version and I'm getting all messed up colors, in both the movies and main menu, basically impossible to make anything out
Try uninstalling the game completely, re-installing without using old saves and see if that helps you as it did for DarrenMcLachlan :)

CrowTRobo: Just the installer was updated and not the actual game data, correct? I haven't played it yet but have downloaded it and will run it via WINE - so I don't care about Win 7 & 8 support. :)
The installer was updated, yes :)

Nirth: I found an old no-cd fix for this game that have a readme regarding unknown command lines for this game. The author didn't specify the reason behind the flag "-e" but it was supposed to say something about Direct Draw so just out of curiousity I added it to a shortcut to "sntrm.exe" and not GOGLauncher.

Now the game is not lagging anymore, it runs as quick as it's supposed. I've done anymore testing, but does anyone know how I could possibly use this "-e" flag in the GOGLauncher? I would like to play with both so I can see if one of them is more stable.

I also found this: Sanitarium Error in Windows

A user there mentions this:

if using win7 or vista, right click on the desktop, and click screen resolution. don't click on it anything, just leave it open.

Nirth: I tried this as well just out of curiousity and I was pleasantly surprised. The colour issue that is present in the game if you run "sntrm.exe" instead of GOGLauncher is gone. Something with DD issues regarding resolution in newer OSes but I'm no programmer.
If you're talking about the launcher from the Start menu you can add the flag just like you did for your shortcut as that's what the launcher is: a short cut with any possible flags applied :)

Nirth: Like this?

"...\Sanitarium\GOGLauncher.exe -e GOGSANITARIUM" or "Sanitarium\GOGLauncher.exe GOGSANITARIUM -e"

I tried both. The former says "the doesn't exist" and the latter makes the game drop to low performance as soon as I move mouse regardless if I hold down the right click to move the character.

I noticed now that the with the "-e" flag the game constantly crashes at the end of every video and since I don't see how I can find out where they're (conveniently) at least I'm stuck again between constant crashes or constant drop in performance as soon as I move.

I keep reading other threads regarding crashing in this game and some people have tried two dinstict solutions: using background application that drain performance/use a lower performance in the in-game slider or disabling DirectDraw/Direct3D Acceleration. The last one, where can I do that? I usually have specific issues with DirectDraw games so maybe I could try with that.
Have you tried "Sanitarium\GOGLauncher.exe GOGSANITARIUM" -e ?

timppu: Replying to an old message (since I just installed the game for the first time):

Nirth: Secondly the cinematic when you hear some guy talk the video is just a blackscreen but audio is working. After a while the game started. I'm going to explore some more and see if the game is actually stable.

timppu: Do you see other movies ok in the game? If you mean the dialog by two asylum workers where one says to leave you be, I think you are not supposed to see any video there (only audio), as in you are asleep or unconscious while you hear them talking.

I could check if it is the same on my retail version (on an old PC).

timppu: Windows 7 64bit on Lenovo ThinkPad T400 laptop:

At first I got an error that it can't run sntrm.exe, or somesuch, when I tried to launch the game.

But after I went to Sanitarium compatibility properties and enabled "Run as administrator" (all other compatibility options are disabled), the game seems to work fine, at least so far. In chapter 2, no other problems so far whatsoever.

Is that compatibility option supposed to be disabled?
I am not sure about that compatibility option being disabled but I'll ask :)
