Hi,
I know its trivial question at first sight but maybe anyone can help.
I have got a box version of this title and does not work on my laptop.
Secification:
MSI GT729-231PL
Intel core 2 quad 2GHz
4GB DDR3 Ram
Mobility Radeon HD 4850 1GB DDR3 (tried on every driver form bundled through Catalyst 8.6 up to 9.9)
Vista Home Premium 32 bit
I'm launching Sacred with Sacred Underworld (Polish version) with all patches that has been released.
The problem is with textures - they disappear. The dwarf is made of two-three triangles and is invisible. Door dissapear. So characters (my, npc, enemy) are invisible. The houses, background are displayed OK.
So the question is:
Is this version somehow modified or it will behave the same way as my box verion? I want to play this game and I want to buy it second time but only when I'm sure that it will work on my machine. Does anyone know the answer?

I'm pretty sure it will work m8.
Check the general page where they state it works fine for all OS versions.
This version of sacred is adapted by our most revered GOGstaff.
As you can see they provide all the support you need and to help out if needed.
You can also count on the community.
The version is also included with the latest patches.
My version works seemlessly on my system.
Dual core 2.4ghz
Ati Radeon 4850
2GB DDR2 ram
Gigabyte motherboard

I'm worry by one thing:
I play on laptop and in the readme file is written that it was not tested on every laptop and they do not take responsibility if it not runs on newer machines.
So do you think it is worth to risk 10$?

This is the case with every non-console game, though. Most of them these days have the same disclaimer buried somewhere. And it's true; there are too many millions of variations in how computers and software and user alterations can be set up together for any company to do more than just put their best foot forward when it comes to compatibility. Good companies do a better job of it, of course. But even they can bump into unexpected problems.
So if you're willing to take the risk with games, or old games, in general, the question becomes whether this is a good enough game to bother taking that risk for.
My answer is Yes. It is a very good game. Sacred is responsive and has a good user interface. It's very good looking, fun, has a sense of humor, isn't very linear but instead lets you explore and do as you like, and it is immediately apparent that there is a lot of variety in play styles. Some people don't know it, but while the character you play is a single, you can add players to your party to help you by taking their quests and not completing them. You can do this to have anywhere from one or two to about a dozen helpmates in your adventuring party, which is a lot of fun and adds some more variety as well. The fights are fun but feel adequately balanced, there is plenty of interesting loot and it's not too hard to get, but there's enough better stuff out there that you will keep your greed for new loot enjoyably alive. It's easy to play for long hours without noticing the time pass by.
It's easily worth the ten bucks. As someone who has played its most well known similar games, Diablo 2 and Titan Quest, I like this one at least as much as Diablo 2 and more than Titan Quest. It's plenty of fun in a beautiful world to escape to and kick a little monster ass in.
You may have all ready bought the game or moved on but I figured I would reply on this. I have the original game, and was not able to play on Vista. So I bought the GOG version, and it worked fine for me.
Based on that, I would say the GOG version would work for you.

If your hardware is working correctly and your drivers are up to date, the texture files may be corrupted.
You might try coping your Sacred save folder to a temp directory and uninstall/reinstall Sacred/Underworld. It is a last resort effort but if a texture file is corrupted it will produce results similar to those you described. Of course, after the install, move the saved game files back into the new install.
Edit: I assume you installed the game as an administrator and right-clicked the game shortcut, clicked Properties, clicked Compatibility and check marked "Run this program as an administrator.

I just installed the GOG version on my HP dv9000 w/8600M GS running Vista 32bit and everything works great. This is far from a high end system, but the gfx card does not even breathe hard with this title. No graphics glitches at all so far after 6-8 hours of play.
A really fun game -- well worth the price here at GOG. (I missed Sacred when it came out so playing it for the first time and having lots of fun with it. Thanks GOG!)
After some installing and reinstalling I got this title to work. Strange thing but I really don't know why :) Just few installs and some angry words towards my machine has worked.

With a game like this and with a config program - I am suprised no one mentions windows mode anymore - especially when Vista did have many issue but generally in full screen more than windows
Just a thought really as so many posts like this open with no mention that windows mode was tried
