I have an Dell Inspiron Laptop. 17". It uses the Intel Series 4 GPU.

I purchased Sacred a few days ago and decided to install and play it last Sunday. Imagine my surprise when it would not work. It would die with a message about not being able to use Direct X. So I went on a hunt across the internet for a solution. I found one which might work for any Intel GPU based laptop. Here is what the site said: Install the latest drivers.

Unfortunately, that solution only partially worked. The full solution (after a few days of being really upset) is that you need to install the latest drivers AND the Media Accelerator software. For some reason, I managed to get an older Media Accelerator and install it. Sacred Gold now runs perfectly fine on my laptop.

Some things to be aware of: When I installed the new drivers the installer stated that I had to reboot my system. When I did - I suddenly only had 640x480 resolution with only 8bits per pixel. Talk about GACK! So then I had to muddle through trying various things and eventually wound up removing all of the software for the graphics chips from my system and then re-installing the graphic drivers. Luckily for me - I have more than one computer. So I could look for drivers and such on the good one and work on getting the bad one back up and running. It took me a while to decide to re-install the Media Accelerator but when I did - BING! Everything went back to working properly. Once that was done - I reinstalled Sacred and it came up and ran just fine.

So don't give up. You might actually be able to run Sacred on an Intel GPU. All you gotta do is keep trying.

Actually, when you got to the point with the nasty graphics, you may been able to go into the display settings and set them to 32 bit and whatever resolution you use. That happens sometimes after installation of a new GPU and or Drivers.
