There seem to be a cheat function you can turn on in the console in-game but there's no information in the manual.

I'm not sure what cheats are referred to, I was curious but mainly I would like to edit a character if need be particularly changing or adding Combat Arts and Skills.

If you want to edit a character, you should rather use Sacred Character Modifier and, optionally, Item Manager.

Thank you!

I found this description added by a user:
No, it does not edit the Save Game file, it edits the Import/Export character file, usually named hero00.pax through hero07.pax.
How to Use: Start a new game and Export the character to one of the 8 available slots as soon as the tutorial is finished, or skip the tutorial and export the character immediately. There is no need to save the game, because it is the Import/Export file you will be using. After exporting, exit the game and open the Sacred Character Modifier. Open Explorer and find the Sacred/Save directory. Drag and drop the heroXX.pax file on the "drop file here" button in the Sacred Character Modifier. Edit whatever you wish, then select "Apply" when you are done, then close Explorer and the Sacred Character Modifier. Now, start a new game and Import the hero character you just saved and enjoy your edited character. Any exported hero file can be edited, but after the edit you must start a new game with the edited character. It does not appear to be possible to edit a game in progress, but I have not actually tried. The Steam version of the game, according to what others have said, uses a slightly different Save Game structure, not compatible with most Character Editors. It may work, but make a backup of the save game files first if you are going to try it.
Is this true you can't edit a game in-progress? I suppose not too bad, I haven't progressed far.

Yes, these are not savegame editors. You work on previously exported character. Then you have to start from the beginning of the game (either main campaign or Underworld, if enabled).

Ok. I will restart then when I'm done editing. Thanks again. :)
How does the item manager work?

Nirth: How does the item manager work?
First, you have to load an exported character file. You'll see its inventory (backpack only, you can't edit/export/import equipped items!) and contents of shared stash (those black-blue chests that you can find in various locations).
Then you can select an item, either by clicking on its rectangular outline in inventory/stash or by choosing its ID on the list. You have to know what the items are beforehand, because SIM doesn't provide any names or pictures of them!
Now you can export the item (to be able to add it to some other character, don't forget to use a descriptive name for it) or edit it (use Item Edit Helper button for more user-friendly experience than plain hex-editing, then Apply and Apply once more). You can also make duplicates of existing items.
After you're done, don't forget to hit Update button to save all changes to hero file.

One more thing - if you want to create some really powerful items, use uniques (bronze names) or set pieces (green names) as a base, because they have no restrictions on numerical values you can use, except for game engine limits, of course. All regular items (white, blue or yellow names) are limited, depending on your game difficulty setting.

I forgot to ask. The ID for items. Is that available at the Sacred wiki?

No, I don't think the list exists. I haven't found one.
Using SIM is a little bit oldschool gaming experience, as you have to figure out some things by yourself. Not as much as it was, say, 20-30 years ago, but still. :)

Ok. I just wanted to make sure. It would have been annoying if I tracked down manually only to realize some fan of the game had made one. I wonder if there's at least a partial list at darkmatters. I remember there were some really enthusiastic Sacred players there.
I found the way to make cheats working.

Press the "~" button to show the console, type "sys cheat 468" and it should say "cheats enabled".

I used it mainly for "cheat tp" to teleport around the map. Just press M, then hold ALT and left click on desired place. You might need a few attemps because sometime game won't send you here, probably because there is solid object under your pointer or something like that.

there is a cheat to make your character invincible but for some reasons dragons regenerate all their lives if you try to fight them with god-mode enabled...

For some reason most gaming sites lists cheats for classic version (without addon, non-Gold editions), not like the first time something like that happened.
