so i got the cd keys for the game from gog on request, every time i try to create a account and press send it says ip cannot connect and looses connection, i looked around the official forums and found this

the original SacredOpen servers are still available as well:
The Open Multiplayer server is not closed. They changed the server information.

To access the open lobby server you need to change the line in your "settings.cfg" file from
NETWORK_LOBBY : sacredeng.ascaron-net.com to:

NETWORK_LOBBY : 93.190.65.233

Then make sure the following ports are open:

UPD/TCP 2005-2010
UPD/TCP 7064 (Plus)
UPD/TCP 7066 (Underworld)

how did u save the settings file.. when i try to save mine, it says Access Denied

You probably won't need to do anything to open the ports, unless you have a router that is specifically blocking them. In that case, what you need to do depends on what make/model of router you have.

you mean you cant save the file after editing it ? right click and check properties maybe its set to read only

Me, and my friend were having the same problem for LAN, So we glitched it by making him create a sever by rapidly clicking, then i would join and play 2-player! But the solution is here, if its set for LAN/DSL/BROADBAN in options it will not work must bet set for MODEM/ i don't remember what the other one is. There you go :)
