I don't think so, its usually given as the solution for win8 users and I have never seen any mentions of overwriting. Would be a pretty bad fix if it stopped newer stuff that needs 11 from working so it should be safe.

Ive tried downloading dx9 but it says when i try to run it that i need to be running win xp, win 98, win 2000, havetried compatibility but it still gives the error message?

Ok so found another version of the web installer that started the process of downloading components but then told me i had the most uptodate and no install was needed, not sure how to get the files?

any ideas

I'm just parroting here what I read from others in this forum... found this dx9 installer, same as the one you mentioned? Maybe the dxdiag reports only the latest, and you already have the needed dx9 files and its a completely different problem? Guess no, I don't really have any ideas, sorry.

Yes thats the one I was using, that says no update is needed, did find a development download but when you extract you get a load of cabinets and i dont know what one to use or how to install the files that the cabinet holds?

hopefully someone who reads this knows how to solve, dont have any issues with rc3 that i have.

Hey, looks like I got to you a few years late but I ran into the problem myself! What I did was replace the DPLAYX.dll file in my C:\windows\SysWOW64. (I think the .dll file I had was a placeholder version?)

Just do an internet search for the version of the file specific to your operating system (mine was Windows 10). Look out for malicious files and only download from trusted sources! Create a backup copy of your old DPLAYX.dll and put the new DPLAYX.dll file in your C:\windows\SysWOW64 directory. The game should start normally, then.

Hope this helps!
