W8.1/RCT2 crashing during a save? Not running real well? (Got this link off a Steam community comment.) Try it, you'll like it. ;-)

OpenRCT2

Wow. The last time I checked this, it was still a very small project with few things done. This'll be interesting.

Let me know what you think of it. I won't lie, I am pleased with OpenRCT2 so far.

n.b.:
Saved games are stored in different places. Gog games are in C:\Gog Games...Saved Games. OpenRCT2 games are stored in This PC\Documents\OpenRCT2\Save. A copy of the Gog saved games is made when you install OpenRCT2, but then things go as they will.

They had only started on the terrain and 'loop' when I last checked that.

Edit: After some use, I have to say this is quite nice.

It's too awesome to describe, even in this early state. I think I'll squee like a fangirl on the OpenRCT forums a bit :D

BTW, I don't have new issues running RCT1 and RCT2 on Windows 10, but this is currently an awesome supplement to RCT2 (you need it to run OpenRCT2 for now).
What exactly are the benefits of using OpenRCT2?
It's still relatively early in development, and the team still hasn't decompiled RCT2 fully, so they're currently concentrating on bugfixes and steps that will help make the code independent from the base game. They're pretty much doing stuff on the go now.

Right now, you'll be looking at bugfixes, expanded interface options, widescreen support, in-built (but hidden by default) debug and cheat menus. They also have some assets in preparation on their GitHub that will help make Steel Mini (RCT1) and Junior (RCT2) coasters mutually compatible, in an attempt to complete the backward compatibility with RCT1. Not sure if that was implemented yet. You'll also see signs of early multiplayer, but that's still in babysteps.

Although the project wants to be independent from the base game, you currently require RCT2 to be installed before installing OpenRCT2 (unlike most other open-source implementations).

TL;DR - they've done quite a lot in about a year or so, but it's still a long way from the state of OpenTTD or OpenRA.

The only real improvement I want to RCT is being able to build rollercoasters during pause. That would save all the trouble with "pre construct -> save model -> reload -> set model". That would be great.

You already can do that in OpenRCT2. I can't remember exactly where we put it. Its either in the options or in the cheats window. I guess its more a cheat so its probably in there.
I tried it out, and it seems to work! For a user who uses Windows 10 and cannot get RCT2 working at all, this is an absolute godsend! It also has one advantage as well: it does have widescreen support up to 1920x1080!
Regular RCT2 works on Windows 10.

It doesn't from where I stand...

Uh, sorry, I managed to get openrct2 to launch but... how do I launch it again, I have no idea where it installed me the launcher... :P

Also, how do you quite the game once on the tittle screen?

Also, any way to import rct1 scenarios in it? :D
