The mod is priceless, you just need an installed RCT 2 version.

After you´d installed it, just choose the installation directory of RTC 2 and select it.

At the bottom of the download page you´ll find the launcher.

This launcher delivers the options, too and a seperate launcher...

It´s tiny and runs stable at my system (Windows 7, 64 Bit).

The moded version of RCT2 runs more stable at my system as the "vanilla" GoG Version.

In the attachments you can find a screenshot of the main menu. The resolution is: 2556 x 1440.

It was mentioned here before, and an awesome project it is. Calling it a mod or tool doesn't quite cut its main focus - eventually, it's supposed to run independently from the main game, just as OpenTTD and OpenRA do as code remakes (OpenRCT2 is an RCT2 rework made in C). At its current state, it fixes most of the things that bothered me in RCT2 as a near-fascist supporter of RCT1, and that's no small deal ;)

Yes, that´s right. I called it a tool or mod because you need to have a RCT2 version. In opposite to that OpenRA includes all needed game files completly for free.

That's because Red Alert 1 is freeware, so they can distribute the original game files as they wish. OpenTTD can't, as Transport Tycoon isn't freeware, so you get the option of either installing using the art files from your TTD floppy disks or a fan-made remake of those. However, both run separately from their respective original games.

OpenRCT2, on the other hand, still needs work to get there, and will still need the original art files (or remade ones if someone manages to re-render hundreds of thousands of frames the game has) to run even when it hits version 1.0. However, it does run in tandem with the regular RCT2 and its code acts (or at least tries to in this stage) as if it's a separate application - an expansion of sorts.

What a mod does is make smaller changes to the gameplay, but rarely change anything that aren't low-level values and assets.

The important part of openrct2 is the MULTIPLAYER aspect.

Also, as OpenTTD has already accomplished, OpenRCT 2 plans to become code (and save) independent of its original.

In a word: brilliant.

I had seen OpenRCT2 crop up now and again, but for some reason assumed it was buggy or not complete or something.

Probably because I only found out about it (relatively) recently.

However, I take all that back. This is brilliant, in that it gives a WORKING version where the original doesn't. It also handles widescreen and high resolutions superb (I seem to recall the original only worked 4:3 and could only handle limited resolution).

The only bug I had was mechanics on crazy castle got infinitely confused by paths more than one block wide. Bless them.

Honestly, Atari should just use this as the official launcher.

Just thought I'd add, I only just found out about OpenRCT2 (it got mentioned by someone when RCT Classic released on Steam the other day) and I have to say that it works amazingly well.

Plus if you can point it at the RCT1 data files it can use them too, meaning you get all of RCT1's tracks and scenarios to play - just bear in mind that loading a save game for an RCT1 scenario will reset the fee mode to one of the two RCT2 fee modes (it seems to always pick entry price and free rides for me) but there is an option present in the OpenRCT2 cheats menu to enable RCT1 fee mode, where both entry and ride prices can be set.

I don't think I'll ever play RCT1+2 without using OpenRCT2 from now on.
