I really loved the fact that ROTT's shareware version was actually COMPLETELY DIFFERENT to the full game. I mean totally. The shareware levels aren't in Dark War at all, but they give you a good taste of how the game works.
the levels are included with dark war you have to switch the wad in setup but you don't get the same end screen. the lasersoft version of the wad is included in the extra levels pack.

Yeah, Apogee took a pretty original approach with the shareware version of ROTT. It's a completely different set of levels and the ending - as Jeffpiatt mentioned - is great.
just in case any one is wondering i put this file together myself it is apogee download combined with a dosbox 0.73 install. it should run the same as the gog.com regestered edition.
updated the download link.
There is something wrong with the install ROTTSW. It is installing a program other then ROTT SHAREWHERE. Are you sure, jerrpiatt, that you gave us the right link?

How do I start Rott "The Hunt Begins" with the GOG registered version using the included DosBOX?
What is the wad name for the shareware levels anyways?

the normal shareware levels are called HUNTBGIN to play them select the file in setup. the file huntbgn2 is the Lasersoft retail shareware level set with 2 additional levels. to view the shareware ending you need to download the shareware version of the game.

So if I want to play ROTTSW and see the shareware ending I have to install the shareware version and the Lasersoft levels or just ROTTSW?

All these files are also available from the official 3D Realms download page:

Have you thought about trying out WinRott and GLRott?

The latest version of GLRott works pretty well for me and it's nice to have a native Windows front end as opposed to running it through DOSBox.
just added a link to the wishlist
