Hi guys.

Love the game, never had a chance to pick up the full version... until now :D
Question though, Blood, Duke etc all let you run in 800x600. Is there such an option for ROTT as well? If so, where is it hiding?

Thanks for your help!

You can change it in the DosboxRiseOTT.conf file - in the line fullresolution=original, change original to 800x600. It's a wise thing to make a backup of the file first, though.

Wow, thanks a lot!!!

I had no idea. Actually changed it to 1366x768 instead of 800x600 and runs great.

BUT: This only scales it to run on my screen, it doesn't actually change the output of the graphic engine... It is still as grainy as 320x180, but scaled to fill my screen.

Blood, Duke etc can actually output true 800x600 resulting in a finer picture.
Can the same be achieved in ROTT?

Yeah, that's not possible; I guess when the devs made the game, they only made it for 320x180 output.
At least I certainly don't know of any way to run the game in a higher resolution, even after looking for it.
That's what I thought.
Thanks again, looks a lot better this way! :D

Try using WinRoTT or GLRoTT from this site - http://www.riseofthetriad.dk/
It is a native WIndows engine for the game and doesn't change the gameplay, but does allow you to play at higher resolutions. There are no fancy effects such as 3D models or lighting effects, it is just to get the game running natively in Windows with higher resolutions.
I guess I'll have to give this a try. Thanks for the help guys!
I've tried WinROTT myself, and didn't recommend it because while it *can* be used to run RoTT at a higher resolution (for me, up to 1024x768, I don't know if it's like this for everyone or not), the bars at the top and bottom of the screen are so small it's very difficult to see. Granted, I've got not-so-great eyesight (even with glasses, I have a hard time seeing small things), but I suppose it's too small for normal-sighted people as well.

Nope, it's definitely not like that for me. I'm using WinRoTTGL v1.58 (running with resolution 1280x1024) and the bars at the top and bottom (for ammo and health, etc) are just as large as they are in the plain old DOS version, very readable.

It's curious then why it's like this for me then. For me, it is really small; when I have some effect active, I can barely see its icon.
I've made a screenshot of WinROTT, it is very messed up (it looks like some disco fever-induced painting), but you can see how narrow my status bars are.

Which version are you using and is it plain WinRoTT or WinRoTTGL (GLRoTT)?

I've had a look in the game settings both in the game and in the WinRoTT client before you launch the game and I can't find anything that might alter it, so I could only suggest changing the screen size in-game (like the old FPS games used to with +/-). Other than that, maybe send an email to Birgers to see if he knows what causes it and whether there is a fix.

I've provided a photo (couldn't figure out how to take a screenshot) of mine running and you can see the bars just as they used to in DOS. The textures are unaltered so up close they look just like the old DOS days, but they keep their detail at further distance due to the higher resolution.

Well, I play regular ROTT as GOG provided it, and only play extra levels and random maps in WinROTT (which in plain WinROTT, not GL, version 2.24), so it's not that much of a bother fot the time being, but when I start playing with it for an extended period of time, I'll be sure to contact Birgers about it.

Forget using WinROTT...use WinRottGL Full v1.64...you can actually run the game in 1920x1080 with it. With WinROTT the max res you can run it is 1024x768.
