Hey there! I've bought this game quite a while a go but every time I tried starting the game it would crash without any further information. Seeing that there wasn't a fix for a long time I tried looking for a solution myself. Long story short, my guess is that the developers set the game path to a maximum of 50 characters. What this means is that that if you install the game in a slew of subfolders, the game will crash at runtime / startup.
So, in order to skip this error, when installing the game, just specify a new, shorter path. My recommendation would be to use folders without spaces, for compatibility reasons, but it isn't a must. For example, I've installed the game on my ramdrive "R:\test\Revenant" (16 characters) and the game worked just fine on Windows 8.1 64bit.
Another thing to note is that the game folder must be named "Revenant" (case insensitive). If you change this to anything else you will get the following error: "DirectX Error DDERR_UNSUPPORTED in file d:\revenant\DirectDraw.cpp at line 312". My guess is that the mentioned path was hardcoded in case anything goes wrong. The D partition was most likely the CD-ROM, back in the day.
I hope this quick fix can help you boot the game up!
