I own the resident evil HD version on steam, but never played it. I saw this GoG version, and read all the updates and it looked far superior. However, it may be inferior which would require mods to be the definitive version.

First started of the series on resident evil 2 on Nintendo 64 24 years ago. That game and the dreamcast version scare the piss outta me. Yes literally, with the bodunk controls. I may not touch the re-make because the original do enough.

Any assistance would be great thanks.

Resident Evil Remake (2002) is definitely worth playing as it is the most refined and terrifying classic-style RE game. This OG version is still worth playing and I would probably play it first as the Remake has expanded areas and story.
steam has only the remastered edition of the 2002 remake of resident evil 1. the gog release is the original game from 1996.
It's not the same game. Resident Evil (HD Remaster) on Steam is the 2002 remake, this one here on GOG is the original game (1996).

The remake is without a doubt the superior and definitive version of BIOHAZARD.
