I remember playing RE1 back in 97 or 98 on the PC, and I recall a few differences to this version released on gog. I'm from Finland so what I was playing had to be some European version.

1. I'm almost certain the game had autoaim, I recall using it to keep track of the cerberus enemies when you can't see them yet due to camera angles.

2. Pretty sure Jill had to use ink ribbons as well. And I always played the Jill scenario first. I have a hazy memory of there being a separate difficulty selection (in addition to the character selection) between normal and hard, but I might be remembering that part wrong. Either way I'm certain Jill had to use ink ribbons.

3. I don't recall the cutscenes being choppy like they are here. Maybe they were fixed for european release? All the cutscenes were uncensored (Chris smoking, Kenneth death scene, etc) and colored.
1)Autoaim is still present
2)Not in all pc versions.
3)The cutscenes are uncensored, maybe you installed a version that's censored??

If you install the english version, you have autoaim and the cutscenes are uncensored

I played the German Director's Cut on Playstation 1, back in the days, and, the cutscenes definitely were cut in comparison to the ones in this version. There was less blood and mutilation. I don't remember if the game itself was censored as well, but, I think so.

I can also confirm that there is auto-aim in this version. It's actually quite counterproductive, when it targets the wrong enemy...

The missing ink ribbons also confused me.
I haven't had time to test it yet, but is this just a "Jull = Easy Mode" thing, or does the PC version not have ink ribbons in general?
According to another thread, it's indeed an easy mode. Sounds like when you start a second game, Jill will also use ink ribbons, but, not sure.

Second playthrough Jill has ink ribbons and zombies take a few more hits sometimes, you also take a bit more damage it felt like but I can't 100% confirm that, the other things are 100% certain though.

Edit: A negative though, if you unlocked things in your first playthrough like the unlockable weapons they start in your inventory so you have to not pick up as much at the start of your new game.

The_Mage: [...]
I really want to know this too. So far I haven't found any factual information about this claim with Jills inkribbon situation on PC. All I can find is unreliable user comments claiming there is a no auto aim / ink ribbon PC release.

I had the german Virgin Interactive White Label version. And even that one had auto aim, fully uncensored everything (smoking, gore, colored intro) and no ink-ribbon for Jill. I am so pissed there is no virgin interactive splash screen in the german GOG PC release. Another reason why the GOG release is not truly "preserved" how many users claim.

There's no PC version of this game without auto-aim, sadly. They used the JPN version settings no matter the region. This is the JPN version of the game, that's the one Capcom used back in the day for every PC release of Residentevil. They just switched the language file for each region. Can't say why they did this, maybe a mistake, or maybe they were lazy, and since the JPN version already had the extra gore, they used it as a base. The only way to play the game with the difficulty seen in the western PS releases of the game is to play it over there. I've searched a lot and had to dig a bit because it seemed so silly and frustrating, but apparently there is no PC version of Residentevil displaying the western difficulty settings.
