Thought I ask if anybody successfully attempted this before wasting time on what in the end wouldn't work anyway because of things being hardcoded or something along those lines.

I'm certainly no expert but just tech savvy enough to know that in other games it's often just a matter of swapping the respective localisation files (containing descriptions, subtitles, text in general) and maybe also renaming them to the original designations to trick the game into referencing and calling upon what appears to be the original non-German-localised files.

Thanks in advance.
Anyone?

To reiterate - I'm looking for a way to turn the Censored German-localised version into an Uncensored German-localised version without resorting to any mods or unofficial patches, in order to not have the original "look and feel" tampered with in any way.

The "Out-Of-The-Box" German / Deutsch-version is hard-coded akin to cartridge-games (E.G. "Super Metroid").
Therefore there is no "tamper-free"-solution:
At minimum some sort of memory-manipulation would be needed
( E.G. "Cheat Engine", "Game Genie", etc. ).

Most likely in future someone might be able to make the modified-version of the game(s) with extra customizations accessible right in the Options / Settings-menu
( E.G: Blood-colour, subtitles, etc. ).
But this most likely will take some extra additional time since this game re-release is still "fresh from the oven".

Thought as much, thanks for the confirmation.

Turns out it takes just a bit of hex editing of the German version's Claire and Leon executables after all:

Download the game in English it will be uncensored. I think your english will be well enough to play the game without restrictions and the only thing that changes is the reports so it won't affect you taht much anyway

It's not about the language barrier, myself and I'm sure other fellow Germans too are perfectly capable in understanding the English dub.
It's rather for nostalgic reasons and, in my case, also an affection for "so bad they're good" German translations/localisations of games from the late 90s/early 2000s in particular, that makes me favour the German dub/subtitles over the original. Resident Evil 2 here being no exception to that.

In this context it simply would be great to finally be able to (re)play the original low-res, visually not upscaled in any way German version that's completely uncensored and uncut on top of that.

The censorship seems to be stored somewhere else perumably in the exe. I've replaced the room files with the ones from the SourceNext version and even the German PS1 version, which is definitely uncut. Kendo still doesn't die in the weapons workshop while I'm in there.

If you want a true uncut version, use ClassicRebirth with the German translation patch. The patch keeps the game close to the original and it doesn't do shit with the backgrounds. Just don't use the German HD Translation patch.

I'd still prefer a minimally invasive "Deutsch-Mod", similar to the ones you can get on schote.biz or Compiware.
Now that the re-release of the third one is available, for RE3 too, of course.
If you want a completely OG German mod for ClassicRebirth with all its spelling mistakes, you can make one pretty easily. Still, my translation mods for CR are very close to the original. All three mods are not encypted on Compiware btw.
I'm glad that I don't live in Germany. Playing certain retro games in Germany must be a nightmare.
