I already own Red Baron 3D on CD. Trying recently to get it to run on my laptop with Win XP, I had all kinds of problems, with drivers, joystick etc. Can't remember all the gnarly details but basically it wasn't at all straightforward and eventually I gave up.
Getting the GOG version would be worth it to me if they had "optimised" it in some way to get round the problems with an XP installation. So my question is, if you already own the RB3D CD, is there any benefit to getting the GOG version (I'm not interested in the plain Red Baron or the mission builder)?

GoG version requires no CD nor the need to click on the crosses to start game. GoG is also prepatched with rb3d1078 which may or may not be a good thing. Some have been having trouble connecting to servers and running the patch again seems to correct it, and turns out that patch is not needed to connect to servers as the 1078 patch was for the won/east/west servers, but server security that has been created requires it. GoG also comes with a computer speed slider game starter to help compensate for our current over powered machines.
Other wise it seems to be stock RB3d and one still needs to get a Glide Wrapper inorder to use glide mode.

Thanks for the info, guess I'll just stick with my CD. Seems a shame, I thought the value of GOG was not just making good old games available for modern machines, but also making them playable on modern machines.

It's perfectly playable on my machine, it's never crashed once and other than the sound problem (which has now been fixed) it's been perfect.
