Darn Hauptmann shot a plane with an engine fire and no crew (they took a dive) and claimed credit for it after I worked so hard (including a collision) to take it out. Transfer denied. Well, zero kills and an attempt o transfer to another elite jasta may be asking too much :).
Well, I suppose that is better then landing across the river from the enemy trenches close to friendly trenches and being captured. Darn french are sneaky. Didn't help that my flight leader on an escort mission dove on two Nieu-17s so I dutifully followed only to find out later that he skedaddled. Which brings up a question. In a game like this, I try to play as realistically as possible so I don't go off after enemy planes that my flight leader ignores, etc and I follow him even when I know it is quite insane. In the IGA, not to do so would risk court martial and the firing squad. Does the game punish you in any way for "cowardice", failing to follow orders, etc? I mean, what if someone wanted to frag a flight leader (just asking)?
War rhymes with bell :)
LOL,
Yeah the game will get you if you frag anyone on your side. If they live and you have positive points, they may only give you a warning. Decided that you killed them and you are toast.
You get points for making waypoints at the time allowed, not having losses, and doing damage to the enemy. If you can, do a quick strafe against enemy ground targets (except the ambulance) to add points to your mission.
Since you want to be realistic, this site might be useful in running a long campaign.

A note about the webpage It is very old and something has happened so that the text is now white on a white backgound. But the text is all there, you just need to high light it in order to read it.
Another place to go is SWWISA, this is a fairly dedicated group of SP players for RB3D and they all have things they do to keep the game realistic and enjoyable.

I do understand about wanting to transfer, was playing a mod and the Halb DII was bugged that it had no power. I couldn't get a transfer to to a squad that didn't have Halbs. The maker finally fixed the bug and that next mission I killed myself when my Halb rammed into a slower enemy machine :) You get what you ask for...

You know, some might seriously complain about these sorts of things but, really, they happen all too often in war. I swear that a friendly machine gun nest took me out when I was trying to escape (no ammo) two enemy scouts by diving towards "help". They stayed high - just dots on the screen and I saw the friendly guns firing (which prompted me to look over my back - yep, still dots) - the next thing I know its "ungh" and a cut scene.
Any way, I'll check out the sites you mentioned. I tried getting onto the "Wings of Valour" site but several weeks later and my pass word is still useless due to nobody reviewing and approving the application. I didn't realize that the "Society" site was SP and it sounded way too technical for me.
Now, do you know what I'd like to see (but it isn't going to happen)? Red Baron 3D redone with modern standards. The mods have stretched this old game to the limit - a redo with modern graphics and engines would be awesome.
The SWWISA sight is mostly SP, for they are the ones interested in immersion. They are very technical in a lot of ways, but it is all to increase the immersion of the game. They are very heavy into the Western Front Patch, but there are those that do the Hells Angels patch. Myself I like the Revenge of the Jastas mod, but mainly for the non-mirrored aircraft,
Yes, it would be cool if RB3D could be redone with modern graphics and a more sophisticated campaign engine. Play this game enough you will notice some limitations. The two biggest for me is the fight to the death attitude of all AI airplanes and the flying over the clouds when you are suppose to protect what is below them, and the attackers almost always come in lower.
There is a group working on trying to get RB3D a bit of an update. Currently working on the flight models and damage models of the multi-player aircraft. They may take a stab at least getting better stock graphics inf not also better 3D models. I do not know what effort they are considering for the SP side of things yet.

Yeah, I noticed that cloud thing too - also, above the clouds and the AA, which is visually aimed, continues to pop away in close vicinity and bombers bomb accurately through the clouds.
Hey, do you know what that gauge is on the lower right of the Alb D-II - authentic settings (only visible via page down)? It kind of acts like a fuel gauge but I don't believe they came with them. Perhaps time since engine start?

Instruments, top row are Clock, Altitude, compass, RPM, Tempature, with under neath them in center is your level.
For page down, left is a static valve, on the right is a gauge I have never seen move and believe is static. But I could be wrong...

NOTE: I'm using the HASP
The one on the right actually works. It starts out near the top (like a five on a clock) and moves clockwise throughout the mission. I never reached its far limit so I'm only speculating that it has something to do with elapsed time. I'm guessing that (I can't actually read the numbers) the numbers may be time left before petrol/gas runs out but I could be way wrong. Maybe I should do a "fly now" and put it on auto pilot with really weak opposition and unlimited ammo to see if the engine stops when it maximums out.

It has been years since I tried HASP. With it being a mod, it could be anything, those modders are always adding/changing things.

I should have mentioned that my first go-round (my bad). Their aim was at authenticity, though. Guess I'll have to do a little more research. Actual cockpit descriptions are likely difficult to find (I'd imagine) but likely out there somewhere.
