I am a bit out of touch with gaming, so this is a real question and it is not a drunk "they don't make good games anymore" rant.

Today I played jam3_tronyn map (it's the bottom right in the composite screenshot).
Please, try out that map and play it at your favorite difficult level.

I was wondering, is there any newer (up to 7 years old or so...) first person shooter that gives a similar gameplay?
Large map, lots of enemies, powerful weapons, open interconnected areas, and harsh final battle.

Edit: THEY DON'T DO GAMES LIKE THAT ANYMORE!

I can't try the map out right now, but generally as for truly classic first person shooters that retain most of what made games like Quake great, without adding much modern stuff, only one game comes to my mind. That game is . Have a look at the trailer here: [url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drD6pWAKnJk]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=drD6pWAKnJk

It won't be out until next year, but it's looking very fun and fast, and previews so far have been very positive.
From the clip I am not sure why should I play DUSK instead of Quake, though... A part of the release date, what is new about it? The hardware requirements?

(The Heretic inspired magical crossbow is cool though)
I think it does play a bit differently, while trying to retain the general flow and structure of old FPS, as well as the graphics obviously. It seems to allow a bit more freedom with somewhat open levels and the cool mechanic of being able to flip around in the air (basically the Y-axis is unrestricted while you're in the air). If nothing else it would be new fodder for those craving classic shooters :)

There are several other games released in the last few years or still in the development that go for classic FPS gameplay in some way, but most of these take a lot of liberties, try to innovate, or when they stick close to the classic formula, just aren't so good.

for example ([url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LxTj8Sxpj2M]gameplay video) sticks very close to Doom and notably features a soundtrack by the original Doom composer, Bobby Prince. But, to me it seems pretty bland.
on the other hand ([url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B9FvHPRJTzg]gameplay video) is pretty cool and the prototype demo is fun, but it doesn't feel much like a truly classic FPS despite the look. Not that that's a bad thing.
Finally Devil Daggers is said to invoke memories of playing Quake due to its apparently really deep atmosphere with a similar graphical style, although gameplay is nothing like it.

You could also look up Bedlam and Putrefaction, although they are less notable in my opinion.
Those are all that come to my mind right now. I guess generally shooter games have moved on quite a bit, although I must say I like the little trend that the new DOOM and Shadow Warrior 2 might or might not have set this year, as they look like really good and fun continuations of a lot of similar gameplay principles while still being their very own games.
