Hello, I see a bunch of people making bug reports so I figured I'd just post a quick little list of the biggest problems that are affected my game at the moment.
1: My custom CRT filter settings aren't saving between game sessions so I have to set everything again with each session if I want to use a custom filter. It's not a HUGE problem compared to some issues, but it's still a bug and I figured I'd start the list off with the (hopefully) easy problem.
2: The stuttering is terrible and makes some areas pretty much unplayable. I think there are two problems here, frame rate variance and frame time inconsistencies. I'll address these points in 2A and 2B.
2A. Since the frame rate is uncapped it's free to bounce all over the place with some low-stress areas getting into the 120+ levels and more high intensity zones dipping below 60 (the lowest I've seen so far is around 45). This creates a lot of inconsistency and could be fixed relatively easily with a frame rate cap option plus the option to enable V-Sync.
2B. The frame time problem is, I think, actually more of an issue than the frame rate being unlocked. Even if a frame cap and/or VSync is/are implemented that won't have as much positive effect as one might hope if the frame times are inconsistent. If we assume we're shooting for a smooth 60 FPS (a good benchmark to start with), then each frame needs to persist on screen for exactly 16.67 ms. While I haven't benchmarked this myself, I'm about 95% sure that this isn't happening. I know I've had moments where the GOG FPS counter shows 60 and the game is doing the ol' slideshow and then rushing to catch up.
3. The mouse sensitivity is without a doubt tied to frame rate, and because the frame rate and frame times are so inconsistent this makes the mouse incredibly inconsistent. This wasn't as big of a problem before the patch because the game was capped at 60 FPS. Now, however, the mouse is all over the place.
I want to note that I think people complaining about "performance issues" are not experiencing actual problems with low frame rate (what's typically meant by that phrase), but rather issues relating to the currently uncapped and badly timed frame rate. If the frame rate and frame time issues can be fixed, there will still be minor drops in places - which might or might not be able to be addressed - but the overall experience should improve considerably. I say all of this because I like this game a lot and I WANT to be able to play it, but tbh right now I have very little desire to due to the frame rate and mouse issues. It's just not a pleasant gameplay experience at the moment which is a real shame since the underlying mechanics are very good. Hopefully once the tech issues get ironed out I can come back to this game and enjoy it the way it should be enjoyed.
Thanks for all your work. :)
Oh, and one addendum, I think the visuals look washed out now. Yeah, I know, first people were complaining about it being too dark, now we're complaining about it being too light, ya just can't win, right? I think there's a happy medium between the two extremes which can hopefully be found with some tweaking. :)
