That is, what the retail buyers also get.

The DOS variant runs on every platform that DOSBox supports (Linux etc.) and has CD audio, the Windows version supports higher resolutions. I want them both.

If the retail version came with both, the GOG version should come with both. Nobody likes mangled releases. Most people won't care naturally, but there are enough that will to make it worthwhile, and it's always better to err on the side of completeness when the cost is trivial.

However it may simply be that GOG got it from the publisher with the alternate EXE's stripped out, as was the case with Activision and the *Quest games. Not much anyone can do about it then.

you can find the windows version elsewhere. It runs even smoother than Big Race USA and Fantastic Journey, with no lag at all.

I wonder why they did not provide GOG with that version instead
It would be great if this will be added :)
Yes, because only the Win version gives us the possibility to use resolutions like 1600x1200... And with this, the game looks amazing, still today. Photorealistic! :-)
(Bumping threads about GOG only having the DOS version of Timeshock)

If you pledge any amount at all to the Timeshock Ultra Edition kickstarter, you'll receive the original Windows version of the game right away.

Hi!

I support this request. I'd like to have the DOS versions, too.
Have my old Timeshock!-CD as a Bin/Cue-Image in Dosbox and the Windows version installed. Prefer the Dos version over Windows version not only for the soundtrack but for the campatibility.
Thanks to DOS-Box it is just more portable and I can run it in window mode while doing other tasks that involve boring waiting times (video coding, system repairs and so on) :-D

Now I've got Big Race USA and Fantastic Journey from GoG.
I'm a bit disappointed they didn't include the DOS versions.
The Windows versions doesn't even let you switch tasks to check your messenger (black screen after Alt-TAB) :-(

Often I also have serious performance and sound issues with the windows version. I have no such problems with Timeshock! in DosBox.

And last but not least I've not found a way to trick the Windows version into vertical screen mode.
With the DOS version you can do that. Look at the attached image. I would like to do that with Big Race USA and Fantastic Journey, too.

Can you share how you got Timeshock DOS to run vertical like that?
Is it just in a Window and zoomed in?

Yes. Its FullHD desktop in portrait mode 1080 x 1920 and DosBox running in a Window with 3424 x 2048 pixels.
All of the oversized window gets cuts off ... but thats only black borders with the top view table perspective choosen.
