Danny_Dogg: Just got the game too, got Windows 8.1 Pro (64-Bit) Update 1 and the game won't work for me either, tried popTB & D3DpopTB in all comptability and administrator modes, get a couple of errors, the one that comes up the most is "Application Error (0xc0000022)", wich i know as to do with restrictions on DLL. so i added Read Only on every single one of them, also gave the games file full permission for my user name, but still is the same.
Even though i know i should have checked the game card for comptability, i know theres allways a way to make something work, and you managed before, was hoping maybe you could point me out to a solution, thanks in advance.
Giving me the same thing with Dungeon Keeper 2 :(
lgabcdef: Error message 0xc0000022:
SOLUTION: Go to Control Panel => Programs => Programs and Features => Turn Windows features on or off and select "DPLAY" (Legacy).
(More information on the reasons here:

If you use dgVoodoo (dege's Tools) you can play Populous with D3D mode. Launching the executables with the -allres options enables native screen resolutions.
Tested on Windows 8.1 and Windows 10. I have completed a few levels without any problems.
Thank you :) I was having trouble running it on WIndows 10 - First I was getting Error message 0xc0000022 (fixed it with permissions on dxplay.dll) but then I've got ordinal 4 missing in weanetr.dll. Enabling Dplay feature did the trick :)
EDIT: Did not like dgVoodoo performance (it allowed to run 3d though which crashed otherwise) and mouse cursor was going freely on my 2nd monitor. I guess I'll play it on my laptop under Linux + Wine - it works great there.
