I got under Win10 always a slow downs at the game sound. The menu works fine - also the music. Dont find a solution on the internet. So I got to search for myself. After a couple of hours - i find the solution - and its very easy:

-> go go the Task Manager in Windows
-> Right Click on PODX3DFX.exe
-> Click Set Prio
-> Set Prio on REAL TIME or Very High

By myself the game works after that very well.

The game crashes when I try to alt tab to access the task manager. Does the crash not happen for you?

Lemme try this and see if it fixes the sound stuttering. If so I'll let other threads complaining about sound issues know about this thread.

I got this fixed with DxWnd, I think it's because it has a built-in option to force the game to run in a single CPU core.

Maybe this will apply to you, but I finally got POD working smoothly in windowed mode, music playback and the original car engine sounds. Using an app called DxWnd. (DirectX/DDraw wrapper)

I uploaded a ZIP with all these fixes combined in a single download link, it's here (game files not included, no pirated game assets here) Simply copy and replace files inside your game directory.

Thank you, worked fine for me! But I still have to exit the game with Alt+F4 to avoid crashing.

your patch doesn't work reliably for me, though most of the time I guess. Unpatched the sound problems are also sometimes there, sometimes not.
I seem to have more luck with changing the priority setting of the executable.
