I never played this game before, but I heard about it. Now I'm gonna ask, what is different between original release and this "Gold" edition here on GOG.com? Does "Gold" edition features somethink new, like more tracks and cars comparing to original release of POD maybe? I'm considering buying this game someday, so I like to know if they are different of any way. :)

EDIT: Nevermind about this question. Differences are explained on the manual (Gold edition has more tracks & cars than original one).

The version I had a long time ago had different sound effects for the cars.

Correct, the sound effects for cars, collisions, and a few other things were changed for POD Gold. Not sure why, but they are totally different.

You can actually change them back to the original sounds using this patch. I do, since I prefer the older sounds and am more nostalgic for them.

I also prefer the original one. Although i didn't remember it much but i do remember the sound of the engine when the countdown begin.

I think the original sounds made part of the atmosphere because they sounded so abstract and weren't as high pitched, which gave the game a completely different feel. =)

Does anyone know why the sound effects were changed? Are they of a higher quality or something? I know a lot of games had audio overhauls when moving from Floppy Disc to CD but it doesn't look like POD went through that transition.
