Having trouble here...sometimes, mage spells cause my video card drivers to crash or stutter..usually restarts without a problem but it's still rather troubling.

Try enabling 'Software Transparency' in the game's video options
Didn't help me, personally. Instead of temporarily locking up the screen whenever specific spells are cast, it just showers the screen with square-shaped artefacts. I ignored it to the point when I meet - potential spoilers ahead, skip if you must - Ravel. During her next fight with the floating green creature, the game permanently freezes after crashing the video drivers.. This is on Windows 7, with the GTS 250 nVidia video card.
Actually i think it's Software Mirroring and not Software Transparency like i mentioned above that did it for me, as i think Software Mirroring is the option concerning Software mode vs Hardware Acceleration.

Edit: Actually they both concern Software mode vs Hardware Acceleration, but for different aspects. I have then both enabled.

I tried all combinations, actually. Software Mirroring, Transparency, and that other one that eludes me, right now. I tried installing the fixes featured here on GoG, but they're incompatible with my saves. I don't think I have the strength of will to test what will work, considering the length and difficulty of that battle...

Guess I'll just visit a friend who has an older machine and WinXP, complete the fight, then continue playing on my own PC. A backwards solution is still a solution. Still, some sort of warning or recommendation on the item's store page regarding optional fixes and potentially severe problems with newer machines would have been nice. The reason I bought this gem on here is it's supposed compatibility with new machines.

Well, that's enough of me hijacking this thread.
I'm sorry you're having torubles with it.

I do have it running without issues on Win7 64 and a GTX 295.

I installed the game and followed the mod guide to install all the mods and fixpacks listed there and from there it was just a matter ot tweaking the ingame options.
The 'mods' (the fixes) breaks saves, which is why a link to them on the game's store page would have been a smart thing to do, so the player doesn't find them when he's having problems halfway into the game.

Anyway! I found the solution - on these forums, no less. All it takes is a little patience, it seems. Hopefully, this works for the topic creator, as well: http://www.shsforums.net/topic/43616-how-to-deal-with-the-ddraw-problems-of-pst-and-other-ie-games
I gave up on the spell issue and simply turned Nameless back into a fighter to minimize spellcasting, then ditched Dak'kon for Vhailor. (Which I never used to do in my many replays of Torment when it was a new game). A fix would still be nice, however.
If your issues with spells are severe enough to cause the video drivers to crash, then switching to Fighter is only a temporary fix. There are other spellcasters in the game, and I can think of at least three other places that will likely result in your video drivers crashing. Should that occur, refer to the link I posted above; it solved all spell-related issues I had.
