Earlier today I tried to move my Torment save files from my laptop to my PC and I ran into a strange problem. After I copied the save files onto the PC and loaded my game, the save file was not my current one- it was a much older file. Does anyone know what has happened here? Are my current save files (on my laptop) being saved and loaded at a different location?

i suppose you're using win7. from glancing to other threads it seems it has a habit of moving files around. maybe try searching the whole disk for that save? look for *.GAM or *.SAV if you don\t know the exact name

None of the things in that thread seemed to help me unfortunatley.

install/copy the game in a folder that's not somewhere below c:\program files

Maybe you copy the wrong file. Copy the save folder from your laptop by this location:

C:\Users\*username*\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\GOG.com\Planescape Torment\save

And paste it into the exact directory above on your PC.

Oh, and make sure you have "show hidden files and folder" enabled to access the AppData folder.
