Yes, I agree it does, unfortunately. I was (and still am) overflowingly frustrated at how much work was put into getting the game to run, and having a kick in the teeth like that. I feel I am 100% positive I chose to Not Install the Morte tweak, as it stood out to me as a "hell no" thing that my brain and fingers collaborated on avoiding.

Yes, the modders have done marvelous work for us on this game, and they deserve appreciation. I wish the GoG install guide would be removed and a new one created because the existing guide references outdated versions, which aren't even hosted at their destined links anymore. I also wish a proper hex editing guide would be made, or maybe just the various fixed exes made available for download for specific resolutions, because the current guide doesn't work for, at least, my 1920x1200 game resolution.
Again, the modders have done great and deserve, and have, my respect.
I loathe floating pink bubblegum puffs replacing skulls though, without being able to undo it. I've probably put half as much time into getting PST to work with all the mods and fixes as I have playing it. And I've had to restart over 3 times due to fan update installations.
I think it would be a great idea for GoG to offer a fully updated version of their games for download, meaning, where applicable, the serious and tested fan patching and updating has been implemented into the initial installer and the game is ready to go in its technically modernized rendition. No optional tweaks, just updated compatibilities, dialog/grammar/quest fixes, etc... stuff that makes the original game show more and play better.
